Holidays 2026 – Day 4

Good morning! I woke up delightfully late this morning for the first time: 10 minutes to 11. This is because Dad and I decided to take a short trip and arrived here yesterday, meaning we only have to sail a short distance to Lauwersoog today. We start the day off right with a croissant and a roll, after which it is time for a walk of about 4 km. The same walk I did last night. We also climb a tall observation tower together, from where you can see the entire Lauwersmeer.

When we return to the boat at 12 o’clock, we devise a plan to get away. After all, we are still on the leeward side. We use the stern spring, put the boat in reverse causing the bow to turn to the left, and then full speed ahead, while I quickly release the spring.

It is only an hour’s sail. Upon arrival, we do our usual things: tidy up, have a quick drink, check the phone for a bit, and do some grocery shopping. I was at a very small supermarket at 5 minutes to 4, where they had almost nothing, but luckily they did have broccoli, because that had gone bad after only 4 days. After a relaxed afternoon and dinner, we started at the drawing board to make a plan of action for tomorrow. That will be around 6:15, wake up, shower and leave; through the lock at 7:30, the current is with us, which means we arrive in the North Sea faster. If there is less current, there is actually more current off Borkum. Great plan. All in all, a lot of calculations, but we have arranged it well.

Afterwards, we took another walk around the harbour. Tomorrow is the day where everything comes together. See you tomorrow!
