Sometimes you get a real live experience from a textbook example. Today current against wind. After we passed the Stevinsluisen it was still falling tide, but increasing wind against us. Although the wind force was only 4 Bft, it created 1 m hight waves on the Visjagersgaatje (youtube video).  Finally we reached Den Helder in the evening, where we got a very warm welcome at the Navy Yachtclub (KMJC) and had I would recommend the diner at Het Veerhuis. The services is friendly and the food is good, with nice view over the water (Marsdiep).
